ABOUT
WILLEM WOUTERS (1984) is een Belgische architect die kunstobjecten creëert in hars.
Hij benadert het designproces van zijn kunstwerken op dezelfde manier als zijn architecturale projecten.
Het vroeg jaren van experimenteren om zijn creatieve ideeën te verwezenlijken binnen de technische mogelijkheden van het materiaal. Hierdoor ontstond een uniek zelfontwikkeld productieproces. Zijn werken reflecteren de architecturale benadering van verschillende vormen, texturen en kleuren die door lichtreflecties steeds andere beelden vrijgeven. Een contrast wordt gecreëerd tussen de geometrische transparante vorm en de organische getextureerde holte.

Zijn minimalistische visie is niet enkel zichtbaar in het concept, maar ook in het gebruik van materiaal. Enkel hars wordt gebruikt zonder toevoeging van andere materialen. Dit resulteert in handgemaakte en unieke werken.
Willem Wouters studeerde architectuur aan de KU Leuven Faculteit Architectuur te Gent en aan het UIC te Barcelona. Na zijn studies, verhuisde hij naar Parijs om er gedurende 8 jaar bij gerenommeerde internationale architectenbureaus te werken. In 2015 keerde hij terug naar België om grootschalige projecten uit te voeren voor een bekend Belgisch architectenbureau. Gedreven door passie, focust hij zich sindsdien op het creëren van eigen werken.

WILLEM WOUTERS (1984) is a Belgian based architect who creates art objects in resin. The way he approaches the design of his art is similar to his architectural work.
Willem spent years experimenting with the technical properties of the material to turn his creative ideas into reality, resulting in a unique production process. His work expresses an architectural approach to shapes, textures and colors releasing different images through reflection of light.

A contrast is created between the geometric transparent shape and the organic textured void, that appears as if it has been carved out. It expresses a sculptural sensibility that reinvents the balance between solid and void, opaque and transparent, interior and exterior. The finished works seem like 'small-scale architectural entities'.

His minimalistic approach is not only visible in the concept, but also in the use of materials. Only resin is used, without the addition of other materials, resulting in handmade and unique pieces.
Willem Wouters studied architecture at the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL) - Faculty of Architecture in Ghent and at the International University of Catalonia (UIC) in Barcelona. After graduating, he moved to Paris where he gained experience at renowned international architectural firms for 8 years. He returned to Belgium in 2015 to carry out large-scale projects for a well-known Belgian architectural firm. Driven by passion, he has been focused on creating his own work ever since.
